ICS Exams

The Following is a brief summary of the ICS exams. Be sure to read the full information outlining instructions for completing the exam process on the ICS site here - prior to scheduling an appointment.

ICS 31 / CSE 41 INTRODUCTION TO PROGRAMMING--CREDIT BY EXAM INFORMATION

A. Which majors should consider the ICS 31 credit by exam?

  • Business Information Management
  • Computer Game Science
  • Computer Science
  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Data Science
  • Informatics
  • Software Engineering

B. Should you consider this?

If you are a transfer student and do not have COMPLETE credit for the entire ICS 21-22 sequence i.e. took only 1 of the 2 required courses, OR have only ICS 21 credit (Use Assist.org), we recommend you take the exam. If you are a freshman and took the Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science A exam, you do NOT have credit for ICS 31. So, we recommend you take the exam.

C. Exam format
The ICS 31 Placement Exam is a two-hour multiple choice exam.

Please refer to the ICS 31 page for details and instructions. Please note: If you are a continuing student, schedule an appointment only after you've obtained your signed credit exam form.

ICS 45C CREDIT BY EXAM INFO FOR TRANSFERS AND SECOND BACCALAUREATE

A. Which majors should consider the ICS 45C credit by exam?

  • Computer Game Science
  • Computer Science
  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Data Science
  • Software Engineering

B. Should you consider this?

If you are a transfer student and do not have COMPLETE credit for ICS 45C i.e. took only 1 of the 2 required courses, OR your transfer school did not have an officially articulated ICS 45C course (Use Assist.org), we recommend you take the exam. If you are a freshman you will NOT take the exam.
There is no academic penalty if you do not do well on the exam.

C. Exam format
The ICS 45C Placement Exam is a two-hour multiple choice exam with 28 questions.

ICS 45J CREDIT BY EXAM INFO FOR TRANSFERS AND SECOND BACCALAUREATE

A. Which majors should consider the ICS 45J credit by exam?

  • Business Information Management
  • Computer Science
  • Informatics
  • Software Engineering

B. Should you consider this?

If you are a transfer student and do not have COMPLETE credit for the entire ICS 21-22 sequence i.e. took only 1 of the 2 required courses, OR have only ICS 21 credit (Use Assist.org), we recommend you take the exam.  Otherwise, you will have to take ICS 45J in the Fall.If you are a freshman you will NOT take the exam.

C. Exam format
The ICS 45J Placement Exam is a two-hour multiple choice exam with 50 questions.
